My mother is visiting us from Tulsa for a week, and is enjoying our much cooler weather here in Northern California. She does Weight Watchers, but like I've mentioned before, she has done a dozen different diets in her lifetime. She is doing Points Plus with Simply Filling, which sounds totally confusing to me.

Introducing my mother to the wonders of Paleo |
But for the week she is with me, she is going to the the Belly Fat Cure! Wahoo! She hasn't lost anything since April and she goes weekly for the weigh-ins and has really been following the plan. But we were sitting here talking over breakfast. Her with with her Cheerios and milk with coffee, me with my my
Pumpkin Oatmeal, thumbing through Make it Paleo. So I just asked "wanna do my diet while your here?" and she immediately said yes!
So we are entering our food into
My Fitness Pal right now, comparing our breakfasts. This is Mom's WW Breakfast. She had coffee too, but forgot to enter it.
(* Just added the screen shots from My Fitness Pal. Both of us had forgotten or misentered foods)
We are making Pg. 118 of
Make it Paleo for dinner tonight, Buffalo Wings with drumsticks instead of wings. This is a beautiful book with great recipes. Many have to adjusted for sugar content if you are trying to lose weight on a few of the recipes though.
I can't wait to see how your mom does on this diet! It will be fun to do it together. Enjoy your week with your mom.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I hope to share some Paleo with my family too...I've made grain and gluten free carrot cake and it was well received. I mentioned making chocolate avocado mousse and my mom is skeptical....it was delicious ;)
ReplyDeleteSo cool that she's open to change! Cant wait to see the results!
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention that the above comment was from me, Carey :O)
ReplyDeleteScary also is how quickly those grains in the cereal will turn to sugar after she eats it. Excited to hear how she does. It took months of me trying to "educate" my mom and she finally started listening. She gave up her two slices of ww toast every morning and has lost 15 pounds. My FIL (who was just diagnosed pre diabetic) also followed my guidance and has lost 21 pounds in 3 weeks. I believe whole heartedly that it works. Best wishes to your mom :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited for your Mom! I bet she does great!
ReplyDeleteWow you turned her great job! What a difference in the 2 breakfasts. Have a great weekend :-)
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! That's a great comparison an eye opener for sure.
ReplyDeleteI am very curious to see how things go when she tries eating this different way. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteHi Amber, I meant to post this link for you. I have this on my must try list. It's pumpkin "porridge" but no grains with eggs (that will solve your protein issue). Let me know if you try it :) Dr. Davis says that more than 1/2 cup of oats will raise blood sugars so I’ve been avoiding all grains for now until I lose all my weight.

Jealous! I want my own chef/planner/tracker! Wish I was there. Love you both... Misha
ReplyDeleteNow taking Fall bookings for the guest room...
DeleteHow exciting! Interesting how low in protein your breakfast was - I bet you were surprised, but I'm noticing that you must have put more in your oats than on your recipe that you linked to, b/c there's no fat in oats or pumpkin.. maybe some coconut oil? LOL
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Dawn! You know this plan well. I was having trouble with screenshots so just decided to list the food. I'll see if I can update it. We also remembered mom had strawberries in her cereal too.
DeleteIt would be fun to start over with someone! It will be a lot of good reminders. I'm excited for both of you:)
ReplyDeleteGood for her to be open to changes.
ReplyDeleteFYIW - Did WW for many, many years (over 20) and the Simply Filling Technique is the program that I had the most success on. It is really easy to follow and makes more sense than counting points.
Also, the Cheerios that your mother was eating is NOT a Simply Filling Food so if your Mom thought that it was could be why she didn't have the results she was looking for. She will love the BFC!
Amber, i just have 2 questions about the BFC. One, do we have a running total of carbs per day, or just two servings max per meal? I am pretty sure it is per meal but.... which leads to my next question.
ReplyDeleteThe other, is there a time limit between meals and snacks. say I maxed out at 40 carbs at dinner, but wanted a 0/0 that had a few carbs in it, Is there an amount of time i should wait?
cheers, mara.
It says you were at 50g of carbs. Isn't that too much for one meal?
ReplyDeleteYes it is! I thought I had the right quantities but when entering it in myfitnesspal I realized I needed to cut back to 1/2 of the oatmeal not to go over! So thankful I am tracking with my mom this week or I would not have caught that.
DeleteIt's So Easy to make mistakes like that once you are in maintenance mode! That is the biggest challenge, I think, once you get there, is to stay on track with the little things, because they slowly add up. If you're not paying attention, it gets out of hand without you really noticing.
