Weigh in: Week 28 and a Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Meet Jorge

Remember how a few weeks ago I decided to lower my goal weight from 156 and get into the 140s.. just anywhere in the 140s? Remember how I said, oh this will take a while, I'll be patient. Well, out of the clear blue sky I lost 3.5 lbs this week! My goal for the week was a 1 lb loss.

This is my 5 year old son, Skyler. He is just under 4 feet tall and weighs, ironically enough, exactly 47 lbs. I have now officially lost my 5 yr old son! That puts me at 149 lbs. I'm kind of in shock and wasn't expecting this for another month... I really don't know what to think or say. In October 2009 I was 196 and today I am 47 lbs lighter. I am not starving or denying myself. Only on a rare occasion when I'm super busy and have planned poorly do I skip a meal. I usually pay for this by eating more at my next meal. I have no plans to go off plan now or modify it. While I'm at my goal weight, it's not my end weight I suspect...

I could tell while I was on my trip that my body was changing. I caught a glimpse of myself getting out the hotel shower one morning, and my body just looked different. I bought a few pairs of size 8 pants about a week ago. They were tight then, but already they fit comfortably. A few of the ladys at the BFC event told me my shirt was too big. I said, no no, I just bought it and its a Medium. One asked "How did the Small fit, I think you need a Small". A SMALL? I was so thrilled the Medium fit that I got it in two colors! It never even occurred to me to try on another size smaller! I was an XL 6 months ago, so this is all new to me.

Maybe it was being in Jorge's presence... but more likely it's the fact that I just stick to this plan. I don't vary or indulge in things that aren't on the plan. If I over eat, it is things that are allowed. I do feel like I am eating less recently. My hunger level has gone way down too. I just need less food, most of the time. I also ate out every meal 4 days last week, so that proves that isn't a problem on the Belly Fat Cure if you pay attention.

These are my absolute favorite dress pants. They are a size 14 and they fit perfect before. I cleaned out my closet and pretty much all my pants, shorts and shirts have to go. Most of my shirts are okay I think, unless it was an XL, those are way too big now. I'm having a Large Ladies garage sale this weekend! Too bad all my neighbors are skinny...

One more thing happened this week. Long story short, I had blood in my urine and was feeling fatigued Monday. Turns out I was dehydrated, probably due to the drive back from San Diego. I didn't want to keep stopping at Truck stops to pee (if that isn't sign of getting old, I don't know what is) so I didn't drink a ton. But I did drink. AND I'm passing kidney stones! Wish me luck! (So far the pain is pretty dull and they are very small)

I've found some photos from the day I finally became disgusted with myself and decided I needed to lose weight. It was my son's 5th bday party. I'll post those along with some interviews I've been doing with other BFCers and MORE giveaways in the coming weeks! I still have so much to share, even though I've miraculously reached  my goal weight before I expected!


  1. I'm so excited for you!!!! I weighed in at 147 this morning.I can't remember what I weighed when I started BFC but in Jan of '09 I was at 163 and eating ridiculously healthy but high sugar! I was hoping to be at 145 by the time we went on vacation but I think this will just be good motivation to really stick to the plan and come home the same if not down a few.

    ...or maybe it WAS just being Jorge's presence that made the lbs fly off!!!

    Good luck with the stones. They can be SUPER painful. I know I'm not drinking enough water now that my schedule's changed around. Gotta work on that.

  2. So you haven't "cheated" even once?

    I ask because I generally eat a low-carb diet, but I also review food, so it's important that I be able to try whatever a restaurant's known for. I haven't read Jorge's book yet but am interested in what he says about cheating.

  3. Way to go Amber! It was so great meeting you in San Diego. I lost 3 lbs this week too. In fact I dropped below 200 lbs. for the first time since high school, I think. Jorge was very inspirational!

    Candy - I was so pleased to meet you too! I was just looking at the video I made of you all eating lunch. Congrats on reaching a new milestone!!

    Katie - Cheated is a relative term, or so Bill Clinton would want us to think. At Christmas on a trip I went "off plan" for about a day and then realized it was ridiculous and I wasn't enjoying the food like I thought. I do over eat, keep reading... but it really is with stuff that we are "allowed". Im just a carboholic and really cant be trusted with some foods alone (=Doritos, brownies) I have not been perfect, Ive tried to be really honest with myself (and here) about my problems with food. Binge eating, secret eating, etc were my problems. Those I feel I have conquered!

    There is NO cheat day/meal on BFC and Jorge doesnt talk about cheating or doing a partial version. I think doing it half-way would be difficult. But that is just me.

    I would love to drop 3 # in a week - I only want to lose 6# more and its really, really slow.
    If you would not mind sharing a week of your food choices I would appreciate it.
    You did have ex. on your s/c tracker which I have looked at several times.

  6. Amber, you are absolutely incredible and a true inspiration to us all!!! I am also a carboholic and into my 12th week on BFC. I now find the plan very easy to follow and feel soooo much better. My carb cravings have subsided and most evening meals (not all), carbs and sugar come from green vegetables. I had several weeks when I lost nothing or even gained a fraction of a pound although staying within the plan. As of Monday, my weigh in day, I have lost a total of 15.6 lbs with 15 more to go to reach my goal weight. It is slow for me but, I am losing! I think everyone reacts differently and you must be patient in finding what foods work best for you. Just stay within the 5/2 per meal and 15/6 per day and eat high fiber.

  7. Amber, you are the glue that keeps those of us determined to reach our goal together.
    Most of you are my daughter's age, but sure do appreciate tagging on to the group. Was stuck at 10 lbs, jumped off the wagon for a few days and gained 2 lbs., but kicked myself in the butt and got back on program and not only lost the 2 lbs. but THREE more. So........since March 4th. down 13.
    Have tried to set my goal to loose 25 lbs. by July 4th and I think that is very achievable!! That also will be my 48th. wedding anniversary. For me, slow and steady seems to be my road map to get there.
    What snagged me into BFC was the expectations of large weight loss FAST but it seems for those that did not get that result turn negative on the BFC.
    I do believe that steady insulin levels are the key, and as i have expressed in the past, my husband who wears the insulin pump is amazing me and HIMSELF with blood sugar readings that have virtually stopped spiking up and down to almost being tracked in small curves.
    Think what this plan is doing for ours!!

  9. Woo Hoo Amber!!! My boss is wanting to drop a few pounds for graduations she will be attending next month so I told her to limit the sugar and up the fiber....no ratio and she lost 3 pounds last week :) She is doing Weight Watchers online and when she posted her loss they got concerned b/c it was more than 2 pounds. I told her it was "toxin" release :-) and not to worry.

  11. You look great, Amber! But I have to ask if you're doing the BFC as it was laid out in the book. And I have to ask because, after reading a post at the forum, where the BFC seems to have morphed to Atkins-which I don't like and can't stick with, I'm very discouraged.     The BFC, as presented in the book, is perfect for me. I'm having lousy results but figured if I started paying closer attention to what I'm doing, I can figure out what I'm doing wrong and make it work for me...because this IS something I could live with for the rest of my life.

    Do you have any advice? Are you going by the books guidelines, or have you added some of the variations Jorge has added in the two months since I started?

    Also I, too, would truly appreciate it if you could share what you eat in a typical week. Or even just your menu for one day. Maybe in your next blog?

  12. Amber, I am still so inspired by you!! I feel like if YOU did it (and started at my same start weight), then so can I!! I am on Day 4 and have lost 2.5 pounds so far. I'm wondering what to do as I have 3 special occasions coming up where cake will be handed straight to me....

  13. Kristy - The program you are talking about is still in development with a test group, dont worry about it! I do straight up BFC, as laid out in the book and the class I took. I will do better to post my food tracker in the weeks to come!

  14. Jaimie - I've had several of those cake type occasions as well. I just smile, say no thank you and pass it to the person next me. Don't feel guilty for NOT eating cake. :)

  16. Good inspriation readings all these posts, been on Jorge's plan since april 5 and have lost 8 lbs..slow for me but I am determined to loose all 30 by the end of the yr. Been riding my bike 3 times a week, approx 10 miles. I feel great with cutting sugar..my usual breaksfast was 1 WW Vanilla yogat with 1/4 cup granola or Bran Buds, which to my surprise was a whopping 28 grams of sugar. I am lucky now if I have 5 grams a day...Amber keep up the good work and I fell inspired.

  17. Congratulations Amber! That is so exciting! I just started BFC and I don't think I'm doing it right. I can't lose these last 10 lbs that I've been trying to lose for 1 year. I even gained weight on the Optimal Diet.
    I gave up grains and fruit. How do I get my fiber up? I did by a fiber supplement Organic Clear but tried it in water and then, had stomach pain after that. I eat veggies with lunch and dinner, but breakfast is a problem as far as fiber goes. Should I add the supplement, 1 Tablespoon to my eggs when making an omelet? Or to my smoothie (also egg based)? HELP! I am getting so frustrated I don't know what to do.

    I personally would LOVE to see some additional days from your food tracker. I love getting ideas from what everyone is eating. My goal is to come up with 5 of each: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner that I can just rotate around. For me, simplicity is better...makes it easier for me to stay on track ;-)

  19. Congratulations Amber! I bet you thought I fell off the face of this earth since I haven't posted lately. Well, with the weather getting nicer here in Ohio I have been busy and away from the computer:) I was one that could not lose weight and would waiver back and forth. I am happy to say that I started at 164.5 at Christmas. Started the BFC diet mid January and as of this week I am now at 149! I also have been altering a few foods in the last month of so. Keeping away from anything with wheat / wheat gluten. Was reading that some people don't have a tolerance for it. The only kind of breads I eat now are the Ezkiel. I use the english muffins when I want something with a bun. Also, read that "some people" do better if they eat dark meat vs white meat (satisfies body better if you are considered a protein type person). I think these few changes has really helped me. I know it is not for everyone, but I am so happy with the results.

  20. amber i have been reading your blog now for a few months and have been inspired to follow your progress. i have been on the bfc diet now for 2 mos. i was doing jenny craig before that. i have lost 33 lbs since oct which i am totally fine with. the bfc has helped me alot and its something i feel like i can follow the rest of my life. i have 64 lbs to go and i didnt put a dead line on when i have to get there but i just want to keep going in the right direction. i am very happy with my results thus far. i am going to keep going til i get there... thanks for blogging your success it gives us all inspiration to keep going.
