The 100 by Jorge Cruise

Jorge Cruise's latest diet book is The 100 and all about counting only SUGAR CALORIES. Jorge defines sugar calories as total carbohydrates, multiplied by 4. Your allowance for the entire day is 100 sugar calories, or 25 total carbohydrates.

Plan Summary:  On The 100 plan you concentrate on proteins (meat, fish and poultry), green vegetables (like spinach, zucchini and kale) and limited dairy (cheese, creams).  These are considered Freebies and you should fill your meals and snacks with these. Most of these are extremely low in carbohydrates, thus low in sugar calories. When you are eating things other than these Freebies you need to add them up and make sure you don't go over the 100 sugar calories for the day.

Jorge has a lot of books, so how is this one different? He is always trying to find ways to make the low carb/low sugar diet easier to follow. Many dieters have a lot of trouble letting go of the idea of counting calories, so this book addresses the Low Carb dieting while incorporating calories. Honestly, it isn't anything new if you are already following Jorge's other diet books plan. It is basically a very strict version of his original Belly Fat Cure, the plan I lost my weight on.

Jorge also has several new videos on Youtube. Check them out! I really found his videos helpful and motivating while I was losing.

The 100 is available on Amazon for $15 and $11 for the Kindle version. If you are just starting out and have a lot of weight to lose (more than 20 lbs) I really recommend you go with Jorge's Belly Fat Cure book instead. It is a great plan that can be maintained over a long period. Use The 100 when you get closer to your goal or when you are stuck and hit a plateau.

Update on my sister:  She has been hospitalized for over a month, had a few major surgeries, but is about to finish up her first round my chemotherapy and radiation. We are really hoping she will respond well to the therapy and I'll be spending a month with her this summer.

  2. Good review, sounds familiar! I think maybe he is limiting cheese and fattening things etc. is because people ate too many "free" things and thus too many calories. I'm all about butter, heavy cream and a bit of cheese, but all within reason.
Good to see you back blogging a bit:)
I am so sorry about your sis. I can't believe she is ill after doing such a great job of working on herself and her health? I guess it proves it can happen to any of us and any time. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
    Thanks Amber!

  6. Good to hear from you, Amber. I like your take on when to use each of Jorge's diets and couldn't agree with you more! The Original BFC is pretty easy to follow and maintain, but sometimes we get stuck and need something more strict and this new diet may be the answer. It's a bit strict to maintain, however. My prayers are with you and Misha for a successful treatment.

  7. Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to
my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She
placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely
off topic but I had to tell someone!

  9. I downloaded the book and I am doing ok on The 100 plan. Do you know what the sugar calorie count is on Cruise's lovely creations (almond bread, lace cookies, 2 minute cake)?? I just don't want to over do it on consuming them.

  10. Thanks for the info Amber! I'm praying for your sister. I know how hard it is dealing with a loved one having cancer, as my mom is also battling cancer. Stay positive!

  11. Amber, I'm relieved to see you posting again. Thanks for updating us on Misha - she's in many of our thoughts.
I have also noticed that his books are pretty much the same, they all amount to "low-carb", which is fine. I plan to borrow and check this book out anyway. The same ol' thing presented differently is better received by different audiences.

  12. Amber, my best to Misha. Give her a great big hug and kiss from me. I agree that the original BFC is the best way to go. Please, when you can, keep us updated on Misha.

  14. I was wondering about his new book. My sister and her husband started out with the BFC and have changed over to The 100. They said they thought it was easier and they were getting better results. It sounds much more strict than the BFC and a whole new set of "rules" to learn. Thanks for your take on it. Also thanks for sharing about Misha...keeping her in my prayers.

  16. How is this diet different from a typical low carb diet? Isn't only 25 carbs around the same as most of the other "low carb" diets you hear about? I don't know enough about it, which is why I'm asking, but 25 carbs a day seems extremely low, and I know with other low carb diets, people often tend to put weight back on quickly if/when they start to reintroduce carbs into their diets (I've seen it happen to several friends). Just wondered how this is different? Thanks for any insight!

  17. Great review on The 100. I agree, the original BFC gives you such a variety of food and it makes losing weight very "doable". I still follow the Fast Track but I do have just a few grains. My husband and I tried The 100 for a week but found it very restricted, I called it a portion controlled version of Fast Track. We followed the diet plan in the book and ate only what was listed for the day. ( I was hungry alot)I then realized that following it that closely, we were eating far below the allowed 100 sugar calories ea. day. By the end of the week I had only lost about 2 lbs. ( Which are probably the same 2 lbs I deal with most of the time). Still, I think this will work but only if you follow it and not give up.

  18. I have to say, I'm confused about the 15/6 vs 100 max sugar calories or carbs x 4. They don't seem to jive. Is one for a faster weight loss?

  19. Has anyone done the 100 and found themselves a bit dizzy at first?

  20. Can anyone please tell me,
On the 100, are all meats weighed in 3oz. portions even the snack of deli turkey & slice of cheese?
