Ladies Love Their Wine

One lesson I have learned on this diet, the ladies love their wine. Most diets severely limit or completely eliminate alcohol during the losing phase.  But on the Belly Fat Cure we can have up to two glasses a day.

When I did my Q&A with Nicole she mentioned how a glass of wine killed her desire for a nightly snack. I know many other women who have a glass of wine regularly, and lost their weight. I personally just drink socially, and usually not at home. But I love that I have the freedom to do that.

Does alcohol count on the Belly Fat Cure and a low sugar diet? Yes, it counts (everything counts). I leave room in my carbohydrate count S/C Value for that meal or day when I have it. I will forgo the pasta, starch at a meal and have a glass of white wine when we eat out sometimes. Every wine is a little different and if you consistently drink one brand it is worth looking up its exact nutritional data. But in general here is a guide for 5 oz of different wines:

Something called Ice Wine is very popular here, but I had trouble finding nutritional information for it. It is a sweeter white.

My list can be downloaded or printed via Google Docs HERE. I'll continue to update it!

  2. CHEERS!
My very favorite wine is a Moscato called Sara Bee that you get at Trader Joes...but, it has too much sugar. I am sure if I were to even try to drink it now, I would get an insta-headache!

  4. Cool post, Amber! I love me my Chardonnay and my husband and I love to go wine tasting in Sonoma :) Where did you find this info? Just curious because when it gets hotter outside, I like Viognier and was curious how many carbs that had. I'm very surprised that Sav blanc has less carbs than Chardonnay.

    1. Carey - I sourced it from all over the web, mostly calorieking and livestrong. I added Viognier to the list, looks like it is 2.4 grams so you are set! I used Sutter Home wines across the board for the comparison. If you like a very specific brand and have it often, it is best to find the S/C Value it, since they all vary!

    2. Wow! Thanks so much! I'll have to check out calorieking. I got my original values from livestrong but that was a while back. Today would be a great Viognier day since it was 100 degrees when I met Rosalie today for lunch!

  5. Thanks for the post, Amber! I LOVE wine. Is it safe to assume that there is no sugar in these counts? I would think that the moscato wine would surely have some sugar but you didn't list any and I don't want to assume :)

  8. Amber, I swear you read my mind. I am a Napa Valley girl, rather, old woman, so I love my wine. Thanks for this.

  9. Great post! I am under the impression that most of the wines have no residual sugar in them, like the chardonnay and cab sauv, but that the ice wines/dessert wines do have sugar in them. I will update you with more info as I get it. I'd recommend that most likely anything with a carb count over 5 (just pulling a number) has a few grams of sugar. I usually keep my counts of my other foods low just to be on the safe side if I am going to have a white zin or anything that tastes sweet at all.

  10. Amber, thank you for this!! Very timely. I had a few glasses of merlot last night and was wondering what the carb/sugar count was!
