When I married him I was thin and over the years I gained weight. A little bit at first and then a lot later. He never once criticized or demeaned me, although I did enough of that for both of us. When I cried or belly-ached over my weight and health issues he would make suggestions... none of which I followed. In fact I usually argued back how he "just couldn't understand" since he and his family don't have a pound to lose between them all.
So thank you Fred, for sticking with me and for supporting me. For being there for me through thick and thin, through laughter and tears, through struggles and success. For just plain putting up with my shit. I am so grateful and thankful to have found you and taking that leap together. Because, it WAS a leap. As a grown woman who now knows you quite well, I'm glad I was impulsive and stupid sixteen years ago...
I also hope his mother has forgiven me for moving him thousands of miles from their home. As the mother of growing sons I cannot imagine my boys announcing they are about to marry a women on the other side of globe that I've never met... but then I may deserve just that. Hopefully I will have the same grace and trust in my sons that she did.

Very sweet! I don't think that no matter what kind of dieting I do, my dress will never fit again.
ReplyDeleteI never dreamed I would fit back in mine either... but here I am!
DeleteVery nice. You are very lucky and he is too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. I just celebrated 30 years in August. My how time flies. I wish you had posted a picture in your wedding dress. You looked very pretty as a bride! Hugs to you from me!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story and a beautiful wedding dress! Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteAwe...
ReplyDeleteWOw! Now that is an amazing accomplishment! 16 years of marriage AND fitting into your wedding dress!! That must have felt great to be able to put that dress on again! :) Mine is packed up in a storage box. Maybe when I hit 161 I will pull it out of the box & try it on again. My kids have already told me they have no desire to wear it so why not, right? That sounds like good motivation to keep going on my diet.
ReplyDeletep.s I met my husband in the newspaper Dateline singles ads(no kidding!) and we met in Aug 1992, engaged DEc 92 and married in Oct 93. Been married 18 yrs and even though many ups & downs we have weathered the storms. Wishing you all the best! Happy anniversary!!!
Congratulations on 16 years. That is so awesome and from all the things you have always said about him, He sounds great. You are both very lucky!!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! How fun and exciting to have your wedding dress fit!!
ReplyDeleteWow such a great story of love. Congrats on your 16yrs and to being able to fit into your wedding dress.
ReplyDelete"He never once criticized or demeaned me, although I did enough of that for both of us" - this sentence made me burst into tears. We are so lucky. There are so many women getting bad mouthed by the men who supposedly love them. I know I'd probably be even bigger if Chris were on my case. Honestly, he's never mentioned my extra weight. We are so blessed. Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Amber to a successfull marriage and all you both do for one another great support!! Yes, that was a risk moving thousands miles away!!!
ReplyDeleteMany more happy days!
Peace,
E

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! then and now
ReplyDeleteLove and kisses Amber & Fred! You guys are a great team. We never had any doubt you two were meant for each other!
ReplyDeleteHi, Sister M, it's good to see you here! How are you doing?
DeleteCongratulations! I am hoping I will fit in my wedding dress again. I just want to thank you for your comment on my blog a month or so ago. I have been following your weight loss story for quite some time now. I was never fully commited to starting it myself and tried to find any and every excuse why it wouldn't work for me. I just wasn't ready. Well I am ready now and have been watching my carbs and sugars for a couple weeks now. I started the fast track on Monday and have lost 5 pounds already. I am excited and motivated and know that I can do it.
ReplyDeleteHow friggin sweet! I need a man like that.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your sweet wishes! I really appreciate you all!!
ReplyDeleteAHHH...Thanks for sharing your love story. Your MIL was teaching you about having confidence in your children...good lessons to learn and practice. Happy Anniversary
ReplyDeleteIS IT TURE THAT CALORIES DONT NEED TO BE COUNTED?
ReplyDeleteIT SEEMS TO REAL TO BE TURE
