Summer Lovin

I finally lost the 5 lbs I set out to lose in the May Challenge, so that puts me at 148. I haven't really changed anything, just staying consistent. I did change my lunches and have started having a turkey & cheese sandwich for lunch every day. I use Orawheat Light Bread and dijon mustard for an S/C Value of 3/1. Usually I have something that is less of a real meal, and this seemed like too many carbs and sugar to me. But it has me feeling more satisfied in the middle of the day and I find that I am reaching for snacks much, much less.

I have been really motivated by a few of my readers recently! You may have heard that Jorge Cruise has a new Belly Fat Cure book in the works. Well it turns out a few of my readers (you guys!) will likely be featured in it! It is so cool and motivating to me to see other people's success. We all need a reminder that it works, for different ages, body types and different stages of life. Seeing their Before/After photos and reading their stories, knowing they are real people who did this, was something I really needed right now. Strangely I needed a reminder that it is not just a fluke that this plan works for me ;-) Weird, right?

This weekend a really good friend moved away, all the way back to England. As an adult, I find it really difficult to make new friends, so this has me down a bit. I moved across the country just a few years ago, so somehow I think this is karma paying me back.  She is also my only friend who does the Belly Fat Cure full on, so we were always talking about it, our weight loss and new foods and recipes. I will really miss her!

I home school my kids over the summer (don't worry, they have TONS of fun too), so I am really busy with that. My goal is to be present for them, and be in the moment. We are looking forward to taking a trip to Tulsa to see family and having a few visitors here in California. I also arranged to have a babysitter one evening a week, so the Hubby and I can have a date night. Nothing fancy, just time alone, one on one. I've worked a lot my myself the last 18 months, and it's always all about my kids. I think my marriage now needs some high priority attention too

I still have 5 more lbs that I gained back to work on, but I'm feeling very confident about them. I know my mind is in the right place, I have the knowledge and the desire to get to where I want. It is just a matter of time! I am not able to run much at all in the summer, maybe once a week or even less. So I am getting very little exercise right now. But I want to run the San Jose Rock n' Roll Half Marathon in October, so I'll need to keep that in mind.

  2. Always enjoy reading your posts Amber. You inspired me to start a blog, along with Rosalie. Mine is not as fancy as yours or hers, but I'm learning how to do it. I started doing the BFC a year ago, but never really stuck to it 100% so I felt like a failure. I realized that even though I didn't really lose much weight, I changed some bad habits and feel better off the sugar and artifical sweeteners. Now I have to get control of the carbs. So I keep forging ahead, and hope to have the success that I see so many others have. Your blog and success has been a tremedous inspiration to me. Continued good luck in reaching your goals!

  5. Congratulations on the 5 lbs. I've been bouncing around 145 for a while (but I'm only 5'3"). Time to get serious. I totally hear you on the friends thing. My husband doesn't really get the importance of having friends (he comes from a big family so always has a sibling to call). It is so much harder as you get holder but still important. I hope you get to visit your friend soon!

  6. Great job on the 5 lbs!!! I don't think I have lost my full 5 lbs from the May challenge:( I'm happy with how I have done, but it is really slowing down. I guess that is when the devil whispers sweet (eat sugar) nothings in my ear:) I am totally kidding, but that's what it feels like when you aren't seeing the daily weight loss. I would really like to lose at least another 9 lbs, I know I can do it, slowly....I'm sorry about your friend moving. Hopefully you can keep in touch through email etc. and not lose the closeness that you have. My hubby and I have date night every Saturday. It really helped us get through the child rearing years! He was a 45 year old bachelor and married me with 4 kids! Date night was a must have for him! Have fun!!!

  7. I follow your blog and always come away inspired by you, Amber. I am not doing BFC, but p90x and the nutrition plan, very clean when I can manage. The actual reason I want to comment is your summer homeschool, great for you!! I homeschool year round, and we really enjoy the lifestyle. Don't apologize for working with your kids...they need to use their brains and experience the fun of learning all the time. otherwise, you know what you would hear...."Mom, I'm bored!" Not to mention, they grow so quickly, and it is great to share learning with them and influence them while you can. Blessings on your journey, keep blogging...we are reading!

  8. Julia, my kids seriously never say "I'm bored", but it does require more of me than I have to give sometimes. I am really impressed you can do this year round! Id love to hear more about your p90x experiences too.

Thanks for all your kind comments! They are always so inspiring and encouraging.

  9. hi amber, wtg! on your 5lbs. i homeschooled my son in his high school yrs and we did it year round as well. it was the best decision we could have made. when he graduated he decided to go to culinary school at the culinary institute of america. after working at a 4 star restaurant in chicago, he decided he didn't want to do that for the rest of his life so he went back to school. he's a senior in college as an electrical engineer. many have told me that they believe that homeschooling made the difference. it's one of the best gifts you can give your children.

  10. Hey Amber! Great job on the 5 pounds - I know the other five will come off! I think that's awesome that you school with your kiddos during the summer! I homeschool mine through the school year, and as much as I'd love to school year round, we all need to take a little break in the summer. I don't think I'm going to let them all the way off the hook, though. Summer school is good because then it's not so hard to get back to school in the fall.
Sorry to hear about your friend moving - that is so hard!

  11. Hi Amber,my problem is that I had foot surgery in Dec.'10 & I am still dealing with pain,& swelling so I haven't been able to exercize.I just turned 61 & never had a weight problem till
my thyroid stopped working & menapause happened.
so I've been wanting to take off 20 pounds & the
fact that I can't work out, makes it real hard.I
don't have a sweet tooth, I love the dk.choco & eat healthy mostly protein & veggies. If I have bread, I eat the Ezekiel 4:9 bread,or low carb tortillas. I tend to put on the extra weight on the belly which I hate. I'm a size 12, that may not sound big to many but I'm only 5ft.1" tall which is too much for my frame.Do you or any of your readers that may have experienced some of the same predicament I'm in have any advice? The pictures of your weight loss are very inspiring, congratulations!
