Chapter 1: Lose Your Belly in One Week

While I have been on the Belly Fat Cure diet for 13 weeks, I have not read the book. I was part of a Coaching Class with Jorge Cruise that was conducted over the internet. He distributed materials that included many recipes from the book, along with weekly videos and lots of cooking demonstrations. So far I have lost 27lbs and have 13lbs more to my goal.

I had to drive to two difference stores to find the book (the first one was sold out) but I'm really excited about keeping motivated on the Belly Fat Cure in this way. I think I will see things I didn't before and I hope you have your book too and tell me what you thought about each chapter as well. If you haven't bought it yet, the book is only $10 on Amazon. You can click on the book right here to buy it from Amazon.

The book starts out telling us that waist circumference defines are attractiveness, and has even since Paleolithic times. It is a sign to others of our overall health, specifically our reproductive health. I never really thought about this, but that is probably true and makes a lot of sense. I also have to mention that I don't like the title of this chapter at all, since I am not going to lose MY belly in one week. Some people can, I guess, but not me.

"The number one physical benefit you will experience almost immediately is increased energy" This is the statement that stands out most to me in this chapter, and I certainly found it to be true in the first weeks of doing the Belly Fat Cure. I remember telling multiple people "I feel like someone is slipping me happy pills and uppers". I just felt so happy, energetic, like I could conquer the world. I'm a happy person normally, but I was so tired and sleepy all day which doesn't mix well with two little boys. I feel like my very sluggish metabolism has been reset. Honestly, that energy boost has evened out over the weeks, now that my body is used to this way of eating. But it was very noticeable and exciting. Did you all experience it too?

Jorge also charts out the amount of weight you can expect to lose on the plan, which is up to 13lbs a week. Now I don't mind these kinds of charts, but I know some people live by them and bought the book just because of this claim. Clearly some people lose these big numbers, however I didn't lose THAT big in a week. My loses (see the weightloss log at the left) were big for me and I am very happy with them. Don't get down if you don't lose 6lbs the first week. So many people get down about that. Did you lose at all? Did you find the plan easy to follow and the food enjoyable? Do you feel it is a plan you can be true to for a long time? Being able to keep on a plan is such an important part that we overlook. So just ignore that chart on pg. 4 is my advice!

I wanted to leave you with my favorite Jorge cooking video! I make these tacos all the time and I don't see this specific recipe in the book. It is super simple, high protein and fiber. The #1 key of this meal is the tortilla - make sure it is high fiber/low sugar/low carb one. I use La Tortilla Factory Smart & Delicious which I've blogged about before as a staple for the BFC.

  1. Looking forward to seeing your take on the book since you've been through the official class.

I thought the book was easy to read and I keep it handy in the kitchen as a reference.

I do get irked by a couple of things. Like, he says 3oz of spinach is 0/0 yet my pack of spinach says it has 9 carbs for 3oz. Also, having to count sugars for cabbage and lettuce seems unnecessary but I do it anyway! No sense in messing with something that works!

  2. Be prepared to stay irked, because consistency isnt his strong suit! I use calorieking.com usually. It also says 3oz of spinach is only 3g carbs. But I usually go with what the specific package says on things.

  3. Thanks for the vid!! Was it from the class? I haven't been able to find the Smart and Delicious tortillas near me, blurg. That taco looks delicious. The S and D tortillas are one carb serving right? And this taco is two...is the second serving from the vegetables I guess?

  4. Hi Susie, no this video isnt from class, I'm not allowed to link to those. He did do a cooking segment for us each wk though. This is from his youtube channel, he has several on there that are good! I think it is the Sour Cream which brings the taco up to 2 carb servings. I used the larger S&D tortillas. They are really really good!

  5. Hi - I've been enjoying your blog for a few weeks now. I started using Jorge's Body at Home 19 days ago. My original goal was to lose 15-20 pounds and I was happy to lose 7 pounds in the first two weeks (one pound every two days). Suddenly, this Tuesday I jumped up 1.5 pounds and have been stuck there. I know plateaus are normal but I'm so surprised (and frustrated!) because it just seems too soon. I keep asking myself - muscle gain? PMS? I'm not sure. I'm going to stick with it and hope things get back on track soon!

  6. Hi Rich Housewife (gr8 blog name BTW!) Jorge mentioned that book in class as way to get really cut. But he (now) does not recommend working out as a way to lose weight. Instead he says workout to get fit, strong, healthy, build muscle, but diet for weightloss. Id recommend picking up the book, its cheap and your rich ;-) or get the free report off his website. I find muscle gain interferes w/ my loss but PMS doesnt on this plan.

  7. I think that's a major inconsistency of his. He wrote Body at Home the same less than 12 months before Body Fat Cure. There is an eating plan with good ideas - no starchy carbs after lunch for example. I agree that diet primarily dictates weight. In Body he stresses how important gaining muscle is bcs it burns calories faster (which is true). I picked up Body bcs it was in the open at the library - hadn't heard of Body Fat Cure yet. I'm enjoying the weight training - only 3 shorts sessions a week at home with bands and, light weights and a balance ball. Toning is a big part of what I need in general. I wish he didn't change his programs so quickly - it diminishes my faith in what he says a little. At this point I'm just doing what makes sense from all I've learned until now. I just keep hoping the weight loss starts up again!

  8. I made it the past couple of days and enjoyed it but found it to be kind of bland; any tips for more flavor? I could barely taste the taco sauce but maybe that's cause I got Mild. Also I dicovered that the tortillas I got have sucralose, damn!

  9. Hi Amber,

Congratulations on your weight loss. Fantastic Accomplishment. I have been on this diet now for almost 2 weeks and lost no more than 5 or 6 lbs. Good yes, but I work out everyday. I have been on the more fast track diet using only veggies and protein with avocado and a couple teaspoons on blue cheese as my fat. Can you tell me what I may be doing wrong?

  10. can you drink slimfast for breakfast?????

  11. No, no slimfast for any meal. It is completely loaded with artificial sweeteners which are not allowed on the BFC. Choose some real food to get you started on your day and your body will thank you.
