Week 1: Weigh in day

Today begins Week 2 of the Belly Fat Cure. It's going good, I lost 3lbs this week. Jorge does a weekly live video with those of us in the 12 Week Live Coaching program and I really learned a lot tonight.

First, people are losing big numbers. And I mean big! There were people who lost 10lbs or more! Wow, that is really wonderful and exciting stuff.

Second: He talked a lot this week about the dangers of sugar and even stated it could be more dangerous to your health than smoking tabacco. That was quite an eye opener! He talked about how it feeds and encourages cancer and turns to fat in the liver and causes Cardiovascular Disease.

And lastly he talked about artificial sweeteners, and this REALLY hit home for me. You see, I am (was) a total Coke Zero addict. I have a few each day. I use Splenda in my coffee, hot and iced tea. I choose Sugar Free items over the full calorie items all the time. But that stops now! Apparently this stuff is really bad for you. I knew it was kind of bad for you, but now I think it may be the cause of my weight in the first place!

He recommended a book called Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills by Russell L. Blaylock. It gets really great reviews on Amazon and has changed my view on artificial sweeteners.

Apparently Splenda has stripped my intestines of the good bacteria it needs to keep my body clean. Jorge even had Poop examples for us (made of playdough) to show us what we should be passing each day, and it was clear that my body isnt working normally. Its an embarrassing topic, but really necessary.

The end result is that my intestines are lined with fecal matter, what Jorge calls "False Belly Fat". With a fiber supplement, at least 5 grams of fiber in each meal and a probiotic I should get back to normal! So that is my next goal, to get normal! Because its hard to lose weight if you are barely have bowel movements, right? Sorry for the TMI.

Right now the only thing holding me back from doing WONDERFULLY on the Belly Fat Cure are these damn mini chip packs. We are allowed to have them, but I end up eating several. We are allowed to have 1.  Im putting them in my husbands car tonight so they won't be "available" to me any longer!

  1. I love you! Thanks for doing this. I hope I can find the comment page. I'm having trouble getting the BM's myself. Do you take/recommend a supplement. I can't get enough fiber to make it work. :)
    Also, Protein Bars? When i'm out and hungry I like the bars but they all have too much sugar or fat and not enough protein. Any suggestions? I'll be reading every day.

  3. Thanks so much for reading the blog! I have not found a protein bar that is low enough in S/C counts to be used on the Belly Fat Cure. You can have a mini bag of chips (my new Arch Enemy apparently) and Cheez Its. Several crackers are also low enough in Sugar/Carbs. I should put a pack in my car too!

    I have upped my fiber via Benefiber added to my daily coffee at Fibercon pills. I started taking a Probiotic a couple of days ago. Not really moving yet though...

  4. Hey there!! I'm really excited that I just found your blog. I am also following the Belly Fat Cure. However i'm not in the coaching program and i'm only going off of the information I've been able to find until the book comes out so I feel a little "blind," if you will, but your blog is giving me some really helpful info. This whole time i've been following the program, my belly doesn't seem to have gone down which isn't too surprising since I may be eating something of which i'm unaware of the sugar content, God only knows. BUT today I thought to myself that PERHAPS my diet coke addiction is hindering me from losing the belly fat. I know that Jorge condemns diet soda but as far as I knew, it didn't help you maintain belly fat. But now i'm reading studies that say that it does, so i'm going to try to cut it out but it's going to be HARD! Anyways i'm REALLY excited about your blog and I just started following you on twitter.   6. Susie - I stopped taking Benefiber during week 4, since it counts as 1 Carb Serving. I still take Fibercon pill, but only because my system is sluggish, still recovering from all Sucralose I used to put in my system. I have mostly changed my food choices to make sure every carb I get is packed with Fiber. Uncle Sams Cereal & low carb Tortillas are just a few things loaded with fiber and I have everyday!   8. Hello! It looks like I'm about 6 months behind everybody! I just had my first week weigh-in, and lost 10 pounds (went from 202.5 to 192.5). I know I can't expect to lose that much every week, but it is a good start. I hope you don't mind, but I will be using this blog, following along one week at a time, just for some additional encouragement. I'm worried about my degestion too. My problem is not the small or infrequent bathroom trips, but too many, and not solid. Sorry to be graphic. I am wondering if Splenda and aspartame messed me up. Or maybe I'm having too much coffee. Do you have any tips? I was going to try Psyllium Husks, but the video made it look so gross. I will try that Benefiber you suggested. Moms are smart. =) Anyway, I'll probably keep commenting on each week as I come to it! Thanks for sharing your journey! - Tabi

  16. I bought the book and ready to go but I am confused about how to determine how much to eat or portion size. In the back of the book it gives the s/c by oz. How much is 1 oz? after you eat 1 oz do you add the same s/c again if you eat more? if the s/c is 0/0 how much can you eat? thank you Maggie

  17. Hi....I live overseas and am planning to start Jorge's diet starting tomorrow as I am half way through the day today already. I haven't bought the book as it is not easily available here. However, I do plan on following your blog. Thank you so much for posting. I have downloaded the spreadsheet. My biggest concern is in finding locally available substitutes to what will help me with the S/C count! I will keep you posted. Thanks again!
